Do It Yourself Home Energy Audits. We Need To Talk About This Book!

Simple Solutions to Reduce Your Utility Bill and Carbon Footprint

Many home owners spend hundreds of dollars to hire a professional energy auditor to conduct a thorough inspection of their home’s energy efficiency and to recommend ways of improving it, which results in better energy usage, and provides health benefits and greater financial savings.

With DO-IT-YOURSELF HOME ENERGY AUDITS: 140 Simple Solutions to Lower Energy Costs, Increase Your Home’s Efficiency, and Save the Environment (McGraw-Hill; March 2010; Original paperback: $19.95) by David S. Findley, readers can skip the expense of the auditor and not only do their own audit, but also learn how to correct any problems that they may find.

Part of the Green Guru Guides series of books, Do-It-Yourself Home Energy Audits offers complete details on assessing home energy efficiency.  It describes simple no- and low-cost measures that can be implemented to identify problems, and that will dramatically increase livability, efficiency, and expendable income each and every year.  Whether the reader is moving into a brand new or existing home, or is trying to make a current residence more energy efficient, the practical tips and projects in this book will make it easy to be green.

In detail, the book illustrates how to:

  • Implement improvements for lighting, heating, electricity, insulation, and water use
  • Identify and modify the most costly appliances in your home
  • Reduce carbon emissions
  • Develop a personal energy plan
  • Understand ratings, standards, and conversions
  • Fund your green home improvement projects and take advantage of grants, rebates, and tax incentives, and much more.

“It does not matter if you live in a small apartment or a big mansion – this book is for you,” says David Findley.  “The changes shown to you in this book will allow you to reduce your energy usage and increase your savings by at least, on average, 30 percent.  My hope is to keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer and to help you design and live in the home of your dreams.”
